Recreational Pilot Permit Course - $4,145.00

You could be flying in as little as 25 hours!  Imagine taking a friend sightseeing or just enjoy the freedom of flying on a gloriously sunny day. We know much fun it is to fly and we want to make your flight training one of the most enjoyable experiences of your lifetime.  Our instructors are picked for their pleasant personality as much as they are for their professional skills.

A simple medical sign off from your family physician is all that is required and although ground school is not required, we strongly recommend that you attend classes to ensure that you breeze through the exam.

The Flight Program
Transport Canada requires 15 hours of dual instruction, including 2 hours of cross-country.  The solo minimum is 5 hours. The flight component includes all upper air work, take-offs and landings, cross-country navigation trips and a pre-flight test.

In order to reach the minimum 25-hour requirement our breakdown of training time is as follows:

  • 15 hours of dual instruction (with an instructor). The rate for dual instruction is $164.00/hr. This includes the aircraft rental ($111.00/hr.) insurance and fuel surcharges ($9.00/hr.), and the instructor fee ($44.00/hr.).

  • 10 hours solo practice. The rental rate for solo flying is $120.00 /hr. (based on the above rates less the instructor charges).

The books and navigational equipment required for your training are offered in one comprehensive kit. Cost of this kit is $235.00.

Ground school will provide you with the opportunity gain valuable knowledge on all of the aviation subjects, which you will be tested on. It will also provide you the opportunity to interact with fellow students and share your experiences.  Although ground school is not required, it is highly recommended. The cost, $250.00, is included in the above price. Topics covered in the ground school include:

Canadian Aviation Regulations, Aerodynamics & Theory of Flight, Meteorology, Airframes, Engines and Systems, Flight Instruments, Radio and Electronic Theory, Navigation, Flight Operations, Licensing Requirements and Human Factors (including pilot decision making)

We would like to stress that the total price is based upon the minimum requirements set forth by Transport Canada.  Actual flight times (and therefore costs) may be higher than stated based on the student's ability and aptitude. P.S.T. and/or G.S.T. are extra. Prices are subject to change without notice.

Additional requirements and costs are as follows:

  • We offer a familiarization flight for those interested in flying lessons. The cost of this flight is only $50.00. The flight is approximately 30 minutes, during which time an instructor gives you an airborne tour of the area and lets you handle the controls.
